Liverpool want Osimhen as Firmino replacement

English Premier League giant, Liverpool, could raid Serie A club, Napoli, for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen as a potential replacement for Roberto Firmino, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Osimhen, who joined Napoli for a record £81m in the summer of 2020, has been linked with several European clubs following his outstanding performance for the Partenopei in the first half of the 2021/22 Serie A season.

According to Fichajes via Liverpool Echo, The Reds are preparing for life without one of their long-serving players next summer and has identified Osimhen as the perfect man to replace the Brazilian.

Firmino has been a key player for the Merseyside club since he arrived at the club in 2015 from 1899 Hoffenheim playing a massive role in the team’s recent success in the League and Europe.

However, with the imminent arrival of Luis Diaz, who is set to sign a five-year deal, Firmino could be considered surplus to requirement and may likely leave the Anfield outfit in the summer.

Without wasting much time, Liverpool are already looking at replacing the 30-year-old striker with Osimhen.

In a quote carried by Liverpool Echo, Osimhen, who turned 23 last month, is loved by the people of Anfield and has been considered a primary target ahead of next season.

“Liverpool are reportedly “in love” with Napoli forward Victor Osmimhen,” the website wrote.

“Spanish outlet Fichajes has claimed that the Nigeria international will not leave his current club in the last days of the January window – but will remain a target for two English clubs in the summer.

“One of those is Newcastle with Osimhen described as the “perfect” signing for Eddie Howe’s side in attack.

“However, the report claims that Liverpool have identified Osimhen “as an alternative to Roberto Firmino.”

Osimhen has been linked with a move to Anfield while he was at Lille before moving to Napoli for an African record fee.

Arsenal and Newcastle are the other two Premier League clubs who have also been linked with the Super Eagles striker.
